- Job Chapter 28 leads us through this beautiful narrative and we shall start with Job's question.
Verse 12 " But where can wisdom be found? Where does understanding dwell? It is interesting that a man like Job is the one leading this discussion. In Chapter 1:8, God boasted to Satan,"Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil." He was also very wealthy-he was the greatest man among the people of the East. Job is obviously qualified to lead this discussion.
- In Verse 15 Job prepares his case, " It cannot be bought with the finest gold, nor can its price be weighed in silver."-Interesting! Job was a very wealthy man so I thimk he knows what he is a talking about. Speaking from experience.
- In Verse 17-18 Job strengthens his position, " Neither gold nor crystal can compare with it,nor can it be had for jewels of gold. Coral and Jasper are not worthy of mention; the price of wisdom is beyond rubies." Clever Job! He is rightly pricing wisdom.
- In Verse 20 he repeats the question for greater emphasis and effect. "Where then does wisdom come from? Where does understanding dwell?
- He lets the cat out of the bag! In Verse 23,28 " God understands the way to it and he alone knows where it dwells ...And he said to man (if he cares to listen), the fear of the Lord -that is wisdom, and to shun evil is understanding." Whew!
